Soundstreams COVID-19 Update – March 26, 2020

To our Soundstreams family,

Soundstreams believes that music has the ability to bring people together, and break down barriers. It’s a mark of our collective humanity. The recent spread of COVID-19 in our society makes gathering difficult, but we continue to carry on to achieve this mission.

Above everything, the health and safety of artists, the public, and the staff are paramount, and so we have decided to cancel the remainder of our 2019/20 season. We are currently looking into rescheduling, and have every intention of remounting many of the shows/events for future seasons.

This includes:

  • Secrets April 23 & 24 at the Drake Underground
  • Musik fur das Ende May 6-9 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre
  • Encounters events March 30 and May 4
  • RBC Bridges emerging composer workshop in early May
  •  and our European and Ottawa stops for Musik fur das Ende.

As the largest presenter of Canadian new music around the world, we do not cancel events lightly, but in trusting the advice of Canada’s world-class health officials, we feel this to be the right decision.

If you have a ticket to these events, we will be in touch early next week to offer a full refund. Box Office staff at The Royal Conservatory and Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, as well as Soundstreams staff, are working remotely to give you updates and answer questions. Upon receiving our refund notice, we hope you might consider donating this amount back to Soundstreams.

Music and the arts are more important than ever. We hope you’ll explore all that the Toronto arts scene has to offer during this time of isolation, including accessing galleries and museum exhibitions online, and many livestream concert events. Take care of each other.

With warm wishes for continued health, safety, and clean hands,

Lawrence, Menon, Emma, Tim, Zoe, and Felix

PS – Continue to stay in touch over our social media on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, where we’ll be sharing much of the vast past catalogue of Soundstreams performances and partnerships.
