This concert represents Arlan Vriens’ winning proposal from Soundstreams New Voices Curator Mentorship Program. He has chosen works by female-identifying composers, and the program is inspired by our experiences during the pandemic. It focuses on attentiveness, opening the possibility for deeper contemplation, revealing our inner most thoughts and acting as a catalyst for renewing artistic practice in a changing world. It highlights compelling repertoire in which Canadian composers have celebrated the small, the immediate, and the intently observed.

Arlan Vriens has curated the evening as “a cathartic and forward-looking reflection of the Canadian pandemic experience, encouraging creative conversations and audience considerations about our relationship to “before,” our attentiveness to space and place, and the trajectory of our attention in the coming months and years.”
