Meet the Organ: Your Fantastical, Magical, Polychromic Kaleidoscope of Sound

Soundstreams’ RBC Bridges Workshop Week Presents this free event.

With its endless range of colours, textures, timbres, and dynamics, organ is the creative multi-tool of a composer’s dreams. More versatile still, the virtual organ decouples the instrument from its physical construction and placement, allowing for even greater experimentation. Yet, much like a wild horse in the forest, such a magical beast can be intimidating to approach if we don’t know yet how it behaves! In this practical, hands-on workshop, you will gain the knowledge and skills needed to make this magnificent “King of Instruments” your greatest friend in expressing the full spectrum of your creative imagination. This workshop will be facilitated by Kevin Komisaruk, Professor of Organ Performance, Teaching Stream at the University of Toronto.

The session will run from 5:00pm – 6:15pm. We invite attendees to join us for a post-workshop reception to continue the conversation. Refreshments will be served.

We ask that you please register in advance to attend this workshop.

Kevin Komisaruk is Professor of Organ Performance, Teaching Stream, at the University of Toronto, where he has been based since 2003. In addition to his studio at the Faculty of Music, he has developed curriculum in creative identity, pedagogy, improvisation, keyboard theory, and music for palliative care. He has performed throughout North America and Europe, and produced two solo discs on the ATMA label which received several international citations.
