Electric Messiah IV

In the world of holiday messiahs only one is electric!

Tenor Jonathan MacArthur in “Electric Messiah 3”

A bona fide Toronto holiday favourite, “Electric Messiah” re-imagines George Frideric Handel’s great masterpiece with inspirations from jazz, gospel, blues, hip hop and of course, classical. While audiences will hear themes, fragments and reminders of Handel, Ear Candy’s aim is not to come up with an arrangement of his Messiah. That’s because Ear Candy takes great care and pleasure in deconstructing this masterpiece, stripping it down to its essence and re-imagining it in unfamiliar settings that both surprise and delight audiences.

Jazz-singer, baritone Alex Samaras

One of the unique features that keeps Electric Messiah fresh and audiences on their toes is the productions’ changing vocal landscape each season.  Electric Messiah’s fourth edition will feature Dora-award winning tenor, Jonathan MacArthur, back for his second electric season.  Joining Jonathan this year, will be award winning vocalist Aviva Chernick (John Lennon International Songwriting Grand Prize, CFMA, multiple Juno nominee), jazz-singer, baritone Alex Samaras, known as a ‘singers’ singer.’Adam Scime returns as music director, with Sarah Svendsen, analog and electric harpsichord, Joel Schwartz, electric guitar, Jeff McLeod, electric organ, SlowPitchSound, turntablist and resident DJ, and Lybido, dancer.

Here’s a short taste from Electric Messiah III, December 2017.
