What's On Upcoming Events: 2026 / 2027

Renowned Scottish composer Sir James MacMillan returns to conduct the North American premiere of his new oratorio Angels Unawares, following a historic world premiere in the Sistine Chapel in March of 2026. A work of majesty, mystery and empathy, it features: world-renowned U.K. soprano Elizabeth Watts making her Canadian debut; eminent Canadian tenor Andrew Haji; Soundstreams Choir 21; and Ensemble Soundstreams, a virtuoso chamber orchestra. “Angels Unawares” is inspired by a biblical phrase, appealing to us to treat all individuals with dignity and compassion, implying that angels might be present in our everyday lives, unnoticed. The second half of the program is a brilliant showcase for the next generation of gifted composers, featuring world premieres of six short new works by participants in Soundstreams Bridges Emerging Composers Program. Mentored by James MacMillan, their new works are written for voice and chamber ensemble.
