R. Murray Schafer and the Natural World

Salon 21

Explore the connections between landscapes, the wilderness, and the music created from it.

Explore the connections between landscapes, the wilderness, and the music created from it at our first Salon of 2017. Regarded as a pioneer of “acoustic ecology,” Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer has long been concerned with environmental sound. Join Toronto-based writer and composer David Jaeger, artist Janet MacPherson, and performers from Soundstreams’ upcoming production of R. Murray Schafer’s Odditorium as they explore these connections and examine how they have shaped Schafer’s Patria cycle.

7:00 PM  |  Gardiner Museum Presents: Gallery Prelude – A Canadian Bestiary

Join a Gardiner Museum docent for a tour of Janet MacPherson’s A Canadian Bestiary, a provocative ceramics installation using the artist’s celebrated animal figures to explore living and working in Canada.
