Visiting Artist Masterclass: Patricia Rosario

Patricia Rozario working with Ainsley Wray

In April 2015, at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Conservatory Theatre, U.K.-based soprano Patricia Rosario led a free masterclass for a group of talented young Toronto singers at various points in their musical careers, from an emerging 17 year-old star, to a senior fellow at the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). In the audience were close supporters and peers of these singers, as well as staff from Soundstreams and the RCM. Patricia shared meaningful aspects of her artistry, and gave each singer an attentive, individualized experience.

SoundMakers Student Silent Film Project

In a semester-long partnership with Gordon A. Brown Public School, 50 students (two classes) used SoundMakers.ca samples to create soundtracks for student-produced short films. The silent film medium was very effective at encouraging students to explore and understand music as an emotional and narrative language. The results of this program were inspiring, and students used the musical samples in ways we could not have imagined. They deeply engaged with the music, as Soundstreams brought the music into their world and allowed their imaginations the freedom to mold it like clay.
