Expanding My Messiah Palate

Soundstreams’ Electric Messiah, now in its fifth year, is one of the reasons I was so excited to come over and work here. The show itself is at one of my favourite haunts (Drake Underground, part of The Drake Hotel), is a multi-sensory experience with the performers literally next to the audience, and quite frankly, is just plain fun. To me it’s an irreverent take on a work with a massive history; and that is so refreshing.

And of course there’s the music! We just announced the four soloists, and am excited to share them here today: Lindsay McIntyre (soprano), Chloe Charles (alto), Jonathan MacArthur (tenor), and Andrew Aldridge (bass). The entire show will be under the direction of Rob Kempson and musical direction by Adam Scime, and returning are fan-favourites SlowPitchSound and dancer Lybido.

I joined the Soundstreams team in April 2019, and have been thrilled to be part of what we’ve putting on stage – it’s an adventure every time you attend a Soundstreams show.

I came to Soundstreams from Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir, and in addition to the myriad of masterpieces and multi-media shows that they have become known for, I attended Handel Messiah at Koerner Hall. What a joy it was to attend this masterpiece.

Now I’m ready to expand my palate into something different – a new take, as it were, on this timeless work. In walks Electric Messiah.

I’ll take all the Messiahs Toronto has to offer, and will continue to attend Tafelmusik’s full version every year (and throw in some Toronto Symphony Orchestra now and then); but I’m most excited this year to try something new, and have a great time doing it.
